Latto Is Tired Of The Backlash From Her Old Rap Name

Latto is a rising star in her own right and with that comes the spotlight where people watch their every move. Like many people in her position, though, criticism is unavoidable.

Big Latto has been dealing with critics speaking about her old rap name, which happened to be Mulatto. She changed her name in May to quell any anger, but it only made the critics’ voices stronger, and it looks like Latto has had enough.

On Wednesday (December 29), Latto took to Twitter after a fan asked the meaning behind her new name. Instead of telling the fan what her new moniker was short for, Latto asked if people would ever get over her old name.

“Y’all not over this yet,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’ve apologized for it multiple times even tho I didn’t name myself at 8yo. I took the blame/accountability, turned over a new leaf & made sum positive of it.. all while maintaining my trademarks, LLCs etc w/o branching too far off my established brand.”

Latto’s original name, Mulatto, has serious racial undertones, and fans did not tolerate any bit of that moniker. Mulatto is an offensive term used to refer to people of mixed African and European ancestry. Thankfully, Latto understood why people were so upset, and she made the adjustments to her name without hesitation.

The Atlanta rapper won’t let that issue get to her as her popularity continues to grow in the Hip Hop world. Big Latto recently dropped a new freestyle over Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin” with an accompanying video that shows clips of Latto’s studio sessions and her 23rd birthday celebrations, all while spitting menacing bars about how unstoppable she is and how her haters better watch their backs.
